TORN BETWEEN DUTY AND DESIRE
Covert operations expert Nash Brennon has spent the last eight years trying to forget Annie Gallagher, his former field partner and the only woman he ever loved. Annie betrayed him when he needed her most, then vanished without a trace. Now suddenly she’s back in the game—this time as a suspected traitor and threat to national security.
Annie’s son has been kidnapped by political terrorists. The price for his life? Assassinate a UN ambassador. Then Nash finds her, and immediately, the smoldering passion between Annie and the man she swore she’d never contact again almost blazes out of control. But can Nash trust her? The stakes couldn’t be higher: their enemy’s endgame is personal, and one false move could cost them their lives.

Dee tell us about your recent release, “DARK DECEPTIONS”.
Dark Deceptions is the first in a series about the men and women of the American Tactical Intelligence Command (A-Tac). A-Tac is an elite CIA unit masquerading as faculty at an Ivy League college. Brilliant, badass, and seemingly bulletproof, the members of A-Tac are assigned to the riskiest missions and the most elusive targets.
Here’s the blurb:
TORN BETWEEN DUTY AND DESIRE

Annie’s son has been kidnapped by political terrorists. The price for his life? Assassinate a UN ambassador. If you could compare “DARK DECEPTIONS” to your other books, how would you say it is different?
I love giving readers a ride. And like all of my romantic suspense, I think Dark Deceptions does that, hopefully in a way that will keep readers turning pages. I think the difference primarily lies in the fact that the hero and heroine share a history together. One that didn’t end well. It leaves them with misconceptions and secrets that prevent them from trusting each other even when their very lives depend upon it. I think building any relationship is tricky, but rebuilding one that was shattered by circumstance is even more challenging.
Which do you think is more important in romance writing, voice or story?
I think both matter a great deal. It’s the blending of the two that make a spectacular novel. The author’s unique perspective of the world tied into the characters hopes and dreams and the particular path they must take to try and make them a reality.
Who is your favorite author?
I have to many to name here. But my all time favorite is probably Mary Stewart. I love her writing. Up next would be C.S. Lewis and Madeline L’Engle. But I also love Michael Crichton, Barbara O’Neal, Julia Quinn, Linda Howard and Alistair MacLean to name a few.
Are you a punster or a plotter?
I’m thinking you meant “pantser” not “punster” although at times I’ve been known to turn a witty phrase. But seriously I’m a bit in the middle. Part of writing for me is discovering the story, so I wouldn’t want to know everything at the beginning of the novel. But that said, I am also a romantic suspense writer and suspense demands forethought in order to be able to pull it off successfully. So some plotting is a must. I think of it as a roadmap. I know where I’m starting and I know where I’m going and I’ve probably marked a couple of stops along the way. The rest of the journey though is to be discovered.
Your book covers are amazing. Do you have a say in them?
I do have a little input but I must say that the fabulous covers for the A-Tac series come straight from the wonderfully creative (and seriously sensual) minds of the folks at Grand Central. These guys are seriously hot! But then so are my heroes, Nash Brennon, Drake Flynn and Owen Wakefield.
What is next for you and when will readers expect to see it out on bookshelves?
As I said, Dark Deceptions is the first in my A-Tac series. The second and third books will follow this summer. With Dangerous Desires, (Drake and Madeline’s book) coming in July. And Desperate Deeds (Tyler and Owen’s book) coming in August. For excepts, covers, and more about me and my books check out www.deedavis.com .

I love a good romantic suspense and this one sound fabulous! I can't wait to read it!
I enjoy a well written romantic suspense. There have been several good series written about tactical teams by a variety of authors. There is always room for more good ones and this series sounds like it will fill the bill. This book sounds like a good start to the series - an old relationship that ended poorly, kidnapping, suspicion and working at cross purposes (at least initially). I look forward to reading it.
I like learning about a series as it begins! I'm looking forward to this book and the others that follow in the A-Tac series.
