"Erin Quin has a notable talent for the coplex and mysterious."-Diana Gabldon

A past he couldn’t forget.

Rory McGrath’s life changed the night his father mysteriously vanished after uncovering the secrets of the ancient Book of Fennore. The trauma turned Rory from an innocent boy into a troubled, cynical man. Leaving Ireland, he shunned his family, his heritage—and the very magic that has defined his people for centuries.

A dream he couldn’t ignore.

Then the dreams begin…dreams of an ethereal beauty whose touch is more real that any he’s known. And in these dreams, she has a message—a calling for Rory to return home to a destiny that will take him beyond the realm of anything he imagined.

A woman he couldn’t resist.

Lured to the castle ruins where his father disappeared, Rory is plunged back in time, and into the body of another man—a man betrothed to the very woman of Rory’s dreams. In possession of the secrets of his past, his family, and his identity, her hold on Rory is inescapable. For she is his doom. His salvation. And his destiny.

Hi Christine, thanks so much for having me at Over the Edge Book Reviews! Love the new look at your site!

What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

The best part is that first letter from a readers telling me that they loved my book. That and working in my pj’s with my doggies sleeping at my feet. The worst part . . . the fear of disappointing my readers. I think writers in general deal with fear of failure more than most other professions. Some days it’s really hard to turn off that doubt monkey who likes to perch on my shoulder and whisper self-defeating nothings in my ear. :)

Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

What a great question! I love research and learning something new—that’s another thing that I probably should have said in the first question.

Okay, this one is really cool. Do you know why barbers have red and white striped poles in front of their shops? Because in medieval times they weren’t just barbers. They were barber-surgeons. Bloodletting was thought be a viable cure in the Middle Ages and the tools of the trade were a bowl and a long wooden pole (or a staff). They used the staff to help keep the arm at the right angle to drain the blood and since it probably became bloody from this activity, they painted it red. Their big neon “open for business” sign in those days was to hang the red staff by the door and wrap it with white bandages. :) (From The Excruciating History of Dentistry by James Wynbrandt). I also read another account about the barber sign that said they used a white pole to wrap bloody bandages around to dry—so they could be reused—ewwww--but now I can’t find my source to tell you where I read it.

Do you have a favorite motto?

If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right. Henry Ford (or Mary Kay Ash). Learning to think I can was a huge step in my life. :)

Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?

Honestly, I have too many to count. There’s Mr. Darcy, Stu Redman (The Stand), Jamie Frasier (Outlander) . . . Oh geez, I could go on forever. I am a rabid reader and there are so many talented authors out there that I my brain is locking up just trying to name a few of them.

Which fictional character would you hang out with?

Hmmmm . . . well I guess that depends if I’m me—married mother of two, forty something with a little too much junk in the trunk or the FICTIONAL me who is young, svelte and single . . . .

What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

I’ve got to say two of mine have been favorites. HAUNTING WARRIOR has the best cover ever, IMHO. I also loved the cover to ECHOES and it remains on my favorite list.

What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

Tough question! How about, I’ve sat in the gas chamber at an Arizona Penitentiary and lived to tell about? :)

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

Nothing strange (knock on wood)

If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

I would go back. Why? Because I’m a hopeless romantic. :)

Erin, please tell us more about your recent release by Berkley Sensation, “HAUNTING WARRIOR"?

HAUNTING WARRIOR is the story of Rory MacGrath, who readers met in the first book of my Haunting Series, HAUNTING BEAUTY. The night Rory’s father disappeared from his life, Rory disappeared too . . . .but only for a few moments. He was just five at the time, but Rory—as children will—has always felt responsible for what happened that night. In his heart, he feels that something he did, or didn’t do, caused his father to vanish.

Twenty-five years later, Rory is a man now, and not one to dwell in the past. He’s sealed up his memories and put them into long term storage. Living in the US, Rory has turned away from his family, his heritage—and the very magic that has defined his people for centuries. But all that is about to change when Rory MacGrath meets his fate head on.

What made Rory so special for me is the fact that he begins so completely broken. He’s disconnected from everything he loves. He’s convinced himself that he doesn’t mind being alone and that he doesn’t long for more.

But I didn’t believe him. I knew what was in his heart.
It took a very special woman to mate with this incredible man and Rory had to travel through time to find her. His journey to meet his destiny spans only a few days, yet in it he and the woman he was meant for find the love of a lifetime.

If you could compare “HAUNTING WARRIOR” to your other book, “HAUNTING BEAUTY”, how would you say it’s different?

In HAUNTING BEAUTY, Danni and Sean have to change their own past in order to survive their future. In HAUTING WARRIOR, Rory travels through time for answers—answers to the questions about himself and about the woman he dreams of. HAUNTING BEAUTY was a tight and complex novel with a lot of moving pieces that had to be fit together to get the final picture. HAUNTING WARRIOR moves at a quicker pace, with survival at its core.

Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

For me the two are linked so tightly together, I can’t say one or the other is more important. They are both part of Erin the Writer. Without the voice, the story couldn’t be told. Without the story, the voice wouldn’t be heard. :)

Erin, please tell us where we can find you out in cyber world. For desperate readers like me, we just need to know…:)

I am all over the place. :)

I know this is a difficult question with there being so many amazing authors out there to choose from but who are some of the GOT-TO-HAVE authors in your TBR pile?

It is tough because there are a lot of books I can’t wait to read. Have to have du jour? JR Ward’s latest BDB, Nalini Singh’s next Psy-Changeling, Shana Abe, next drákon book and Ilona Andrews latest Magic book. So excited about them all!

What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?

HAUNTING DESIRE, book 3 in the Haunting Series, will be out March 2011 and in October 2011 book 4 (untitled right now) will be on bookshelves.

I’d like to thank Erin Quinn for stopping by and spending time with us, as always, it has been a blast and amazingly enlightening. All the best Erin and much success in everything you do. :)

Christine, thanks so much for having me!

Hi all and thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you're intrigued by the series. Right now there are 4 scheduled books but the series has the potential of more books so the number is not set in stone. Haunting Desire comes out in March 2011 and the 4th (untitled at this point) comes out in October 2011. :)

Hi again, to answer questions:

Do I have any in put on the covers? Nope. Authors are usually presented with the cover and have very little to say about it. I know authors who've had terrible covers and haven't had any luck getting them fixed. I've just been incredibly lucky!

Yes the series is time travel so come along for the ride. :)

Regarding highlanders--my books are set in Ireland so not highlander books, but I do love those too. :)

Hi again, wow, you all ask some great questions.

What's my favorite book? I can't name just one. I have too many favorites!

Do I ever have a dream that turns out to be impotant--all the darned time. I have very vivid dreams. In fact, yesterday I woke up with a scream because I dreamed komodo dragons were trying to get me. Don't ask why, I dunno. Scares the hell outta my husband when I do that, though. I'm hoping this won't be one of those important dreams, ha ha.

IF Haunting Warrior turned into a movie, who would I case? I'm not sure. The guy on the cover? :)

Hope you all had a great Mother's Day. Good luck in the contest!
