The Legend of the Tudor Vampire Rose
People still argue today over whether the blood-red bloom known as the Tudor Vampire Rose is the result of Vampire or Druidic magic.

Arch enemies for centuries, Druids and Vampires have fought since the first vampires were created. Druid lore says this occurred when rogue Druids drank blood sacrifices meant for their gods. The result of these first Vampires’ power-hungry sacrilege…

Questions with
Award-Winning
Author
Kate Pearce

1.  What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

The best part is getting paid for making stuff up. The worst part is that I spend a lot of my time staring at a computer screen and talking to myself.

2. Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

While researching Anne Boleyn for my next Tudor Vampire book I was amazed to learn that it was only a month between Anne being arrested, imprisoned, tried and executed before King Henry VIII went ahead and married his next queen, Jane Seymour. That’s quick work!

3. Do you have a favorite motto?

‘Make it Better’ not so much a motto as my work ethic when I sit down every day at my computer :) and “Life is what you make it’ because I really believe that is true.

4.  Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?

I’m totally in love with Jane Austen’s Mr. Darcy and a big fan of Elizabeth Bennett too. For my own books I love all my heroes, especially the one I’m currently writing.

5. Which fictional character would you hang out with?

Probably those Bennett sisters and maybe some of Suzanne Brockmann’s Navy SEALS-who wouldn’t?

6. What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

I have to be selfish and say that the cover for Kiss of the Rose just blew me away. Not only does it capture the content of the book and the time period beautifully, but it also looks like they knew exactly who my characters were when they came up with it.

7. What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

Probably that I’m quite shy in real life and have a very boring normal life with four kids, a husband of 24 years, and a dog and cat.

8.  What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

Great question :) One of the things I did before I chose my pen name was google all the possibilities and there were very few Kate Pearce’s around, although the Kate Pearce with Ford Motor Company probably gets fed up of me being in her google searches. I also found a reference to a blog post I wrote about my husband’s obsession with gophers which turnined up on a gardening site.

9.  If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

Definitely backward. I’m a history major, what else would I do?

10. Kate, please tell us more about your recent release, “Kiss of the Rose”.

It’s a new venture for me -a paranormal historical romance, the first in a series set at the court of King Henry VIII where Vampires most definitely have a presence. In the books, the Llewellyn family (who are Druids), are pledged to defend the Tudors against their ancient enemies the Vampires. As you might imagine, this proves a lot harder for our heroine, Rosalind Llewellyn than she imagined due to an ancient prophecy and her unwitting attraction to her arch enemy, Druid killer Sir Christopher Ellis. Each book is set around one of King Henry’s wives.

11. Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

I find that a hard one to answer as for me, voice and story are so integrated I can’t separate them. I suppose my voice, (i.e. all those things that make me write the way I do) dictates the way I tell the story.

12. Kate, please tell us where we can find you out in cyber world. For desperate readers like me, we just have to know…:)

I’m on Twitter under Kate4queen

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kate-Pearces-Fan-Page/220636502580

And my website is at http://www.katepearce.com/

13.  I know this is a difficult question with there being so many amazing authors out there to choose from but who are some of the GOT-TO-HAVE authors in your TBR pile?

There are so many! Linda Howard, Suzanne Brockmann, Christine Feehan, J.R. Ward, Catherine Asaro, Mary Balogh, Louisa Edwards, Crystal Jordan, Larissa Ilone, Dorothy Dunnett, Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen… I could go on.

14. What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?

Next up is a novella in a Kensington Brava anthology called “Lords of Passion”. My novella is called “How to seduce a wife” and it’s a Regency story about a married couple who are not quite seeing eye to eye. It comes out in December.

And then after that- I have two books out in February, “Simply Forbidden” the sixth installment of the House of Pleasure series for Kensington Aphrodisia and “Blood of the Rose” part two of the Tudor Vampire Chronicles.

I’d like to thank Kate Pearce for stopping by and spending time with us, it’s been a blast getting to know more about you and your books. I wish you all the best and much success in everything you do. :)

Thank you so much, it is always a pleasure to stop by your blog. :)

Kate - you are the only person I have met with the same motto as myself - "Life is what you make it." Mine is a little longer, "There is no such thing as fate, life is what you make it."

It would have been nice if the vampires in Henry VIII's court had kept him from being so hard on wives. Druids and Vampires in his court is definitely a different approach. Since I am browsing the paranormal genre, I'll have to give this one a try.

Thank you for the contest.

Good morning, Kate & company. I really hope to win this book; in the meantime I'll be looking at someone's backlist.

I can't remember now, which wife had 6 fingers on 1 hand? A Ren fair comic made a reference to her and I was the only person in the audience who laughed.

Hi Kate,
the cover of your book is absolutely beautiful, and the story sounds great, I'm really looking forward to reading it!

Yup-Anne Boleyn was reputed to have 6 fingers on one hand, which was why she made the longer sleeves that covered the fingers fashionable.

Debbie-I love all history up to the 20th century, then it gets too sad for me. Love the Tudors, the Dark Ages and the English Civil War period.
