From Publishers Weekly
Kellison's debut, a blend of suspense and paranormal romance, follows Adam Thorne as he attempts to unravel the mystery of the wraiths, possessed humans who feed on human souls. Desperate to free his brother from possession, Adam follows a flimsy lead to half-Fae Talia O'Brien, a young woman with a newly minted doctorate, a mysterious past, and magical abilities that stop wraiths in their tracks. As the wraiths pursue Talia, determined to destroy her in retribution for her father daring to love and impregnate a human woman, Adam tries to protect her and understand her powers, and finds himself falling in love. Fast-paced without being frenetic, interesting and entertaining if not particularly challenging, this tale deftly avoids romance clicheÌüs while delivering plenty of action.

Over the Edge Book Reviews Questions
with
Paranormal Romance Author
Erin Kellison

1. What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

By far the best part of being a writer is getting to do something I love every day, and in my pajamas. Some days I put on real clothes only when I have to pick up my kids from school. I also LOVE when the story is going well, rolling fast with the characters surprising me. And I loved holding my first book in my hands. The worst part? Deadlines.

2. Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

Researching banshees I found a folktale where the washer woman by the ford (a version of the banshee) has such long breasts that she can throw them over her shoulders. Fun.

3.  Do you have a favorite motto?

Kill your darlings. It’s both excellent help when writing and is also so deliciously murderous that I don’t mind very much when I have to get rid of a bit of writing that I had really liked.

4. Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?

Favorite hero: Lots—from Edward Rochester (the brooding gothic hero of Jane Eyre) to a young Indiana Jones. I’d love to go adventuring with him. And I dig the whip. Or Han Solo. Or Eric Northman. I could go on.

Favorite heroine: Elizabeth Bennet. I love her humor and she’s a badass, especially when she slays zombies. ;)

5. Which fictional character would you hang out with?

Captain Kirk. The one from the recent J.J. Abrams movie. I’d get to explore new worlds and new civilizations with someone who loves to break the rules.

6. What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

The cover of my first book will always be my favorite. :)

7.  What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

I write very dark and a wee bit twisted, but I’m really bad at watching horror movies. They get in my head and I can’t sleep. If they are campy, I can take it and love the ride. If they are done very, very well, I’m off balance for days.

8. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

I never get anything good by Googling my name. Only genealogical bits for other people come up.

9. If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

Argh. A toughie, and one I just debated with my husband. Going backward there are fewer creature comforts and less access to Drumstick ice cream. Forward is frightening because you have no idea what the world will be like. I like to think I’m adventurous though, and so would make the leap, but it would have to be far enough in the future to witness a contrast to present day.

10. Erin, please tell us more about your most recent release by Dorchester, “SHADOW BOUND".

Shadow Bound is my first novel and the first in my Shadow Series.

The story follows Talia O’Brien, a mysterious half-fae, half-mortal woman who is just beginning to realize her power and her fae heritage. Adam Thorne is the man who wants to use Talia’s power to destroy his monster of a brother, a soul-sucking wraith. Together, Adam and Talia must fight to stop a demon that has breached the boundary between the mortal world and the fae Shadowlands. And along the way they get a little help from Death himself.

From the back cover:

Death
Some people will do anything to avoid it. Even trade their immortal souls for endless existence.

Wraiths
Secretly, inexorably, they are infiltrating our world, sucking the essence out of unsuspecting victims with their hideous parody of a kiss.

Segue
Adam Thorne founded the Segue Institute to study and destroy his monster of a brother, but the key to its success is held in the pale, slender hand of a woman on the run. There is something hauntingly different about Talia O’Brien, her unknowing sensuality, her uncanny way of slipping into Shadow.

Twilight
This is the place between life and what comes after—a dark forest of fantasy, filled with beauty, peril, mystery. And Talia is about to open the door.

I had an amazing time writing this book and I hope everyone enjoys reading it. The sequel, Shadow Fall, arrives on July 27th.

11.  Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

Wow. Hmmm… Story. For me, voice is the medium, but character arcs reign supreme.

12.  Erin, please tell us where we can find you out in cyber world. For desperate readers like me, we just need to know…:)

13. I know this is a difficult question with there being so many amazing authors out there to choose from but who are some of the GOT-TO-HAVE authors in your TBR pile?

So, so many. Patricia Briggs. Lois McMaster Bujold. Juliet Marillier. Jacqueline Carey. Robin McKinley. Karen Marie Moning. Kresley Cole. J.R. Ward. Nalini Singh. Jayne Ann Krentz. Writing this list makes me want to go read. :)

14.  What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?

Soon! Shadow Fall, the sequel to Shadow Bound, comes out July 27, 2010. Here’s the back cover blurb:

Sacrifice
Custo Santovari accepted pain, blood, even death, to save his best friend. But a man with all his sins just isn't cut out to be an angel.

Mystery
One moment he's fleeing Heaven; the next, he's waking up stark naked in Manhattan. In the middle of a war. Called there by a woman who's desperately afraid of the dark.

Shadow
It gathers around Annabella as she performs, filled with fantastic images of another world, bringing both a golden hero and a nightmare lover.

Wolf
He pursues her relentlessly, twisting her desires even as she gives herself to the man she loves. Because each of us has a wild side, and Annabella is about to unleash the beast.

I’d like to thank Erin Kellison for stopping by and spending time with us, it’s been a blast getting to know more about you and your books. I wish you all the best and much success in everything you do. :)

A Life For A Life
The Chanku are gifted with more power—of mind, body, and soul—than the most superior of humans. Yet even these exceptional beings cannot change the laws of nature...or destiny. And when one loses his human life mate to a tragic accident, he is shattered by grief he never imagined possible...

The only thing worse than losing his love is knowing that her death was caused by the incompetence of a goddess supposedly possessed of timeless wisdom. The justice dealt for the goddess’s horrible mistake is a demotion—from immortal to human—and the charge of filling the missing space in the Montana pack. But while some accept her quickly, not all are so willing...

It is time for Anton, Stefan, and Adam to test the newcomer: to see if she can withstand the heights of ecstasy these Chanku men will show her—and to discover whether, when faced with the ultimate sacrifice, she will make the right choice...

Over the Edge Book Reviews
Questions with
Award-Winning Author
Kate Douglas

1.  What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

The best part of writing is the opportunity to give freedom to all those stories I’m dying to tell. Imagine having a head filled with imaginary characters, all screaming to get out, and nowhere for them to go? I sit down at my computer each day and turn them loose. It’s amazing fun! There is no “worst part.” I love every part of this business, from the writing to the editing, revisions and even the marketing. Marketing, which in my case, means a lot of time doing social networking, has become my social life, and I love the contact with my readers. It’s all good.

2. Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

Since I write erotic romances as well as straight paranormal (Wolf Tales and The DemonSlayers series) I will have to say that I was surprised by the number of people I’ve met through my books who are happily involved in polyamorous or bisexual poly-relationships. It’s a lot more common than I ever imagined when I was writing the intimate sexual dynamics for my Chanku.

3. Do you have a favorite motto?

“Don’t ever say you don’t believe something just because you don’t understand it.” That was something my father used to say to me when I was growing up and questioning things. He was telling me never to close my mind to what seemed impossible, merely because I didn’t believe it could happen. It sort of confused me as a kid, but as an adult I feel blessed to have been raised with such an open-minded viewpoint. It makes the world of “what if?” a lot more fun!

4. Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?

I’d have to say my own—I absolutely love Anton Cheval, the über-alpha in my Chanku stories. He’s wonderfully flawed, has a great sense of humor and his love for his mate is as much a part of him as the blood flowing in his veins. I love writing him, love watching him screw up, and I thoroughly enjoy the way his mind works. As far as a favorite heroine—again, it would be my own: a toss up between Keisha Rialto (Anton’s mate) and Tala Quinn. Tala is a tiny little thing who has the undying devotion of both Miguel Fuentes and Andrew Jackson Temple. AJ and Mik like to think they’re in charge, but Tala rules the roost. She’s survived amazing odds and has come through with her sense of humor and self-confidence intact. I love that about a character.

5. Which fictional character would you hang out with?

I hang out with all of them on a daily basis, but for a “real life” friend, I imagine I’d go for Eddy Marks, from DemonFire. She’s got a wicked sense of humor and a lot of the same interests as I have. She’s been a newspaper reporter (so have I) and she loves to hike and spend time out of doors. Plus, there’s that really cool sword...

6.  What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

C’mon? Have you seen my covers? I’ve been multiply blessed by the cover art fairy, not only for my Wolf Tales series, but also for The DemonSlayers! I’m just trying to figure out how to get invited to a photo shoot...especially for Wolf Tales! All those gorgeous guys...oh. My. GAWD!

7. What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

People who don’t know me are often surprised that I’m a sixty year old grandmother of five, married to the same guy for almost forty years. :) For some reason, they seem to think that authors who write hot, sexy stories must be younger. Not true—I think those of us with a few years behind us have greater life experiences to draw on. It certainly doesn’t hurt! I’ve had readers contact me and say, “You’re older than my mother! How can you write books like these?” I remind them that none of us were virgin births...

8. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

I’m a porn star in Denmark, teach anthropology in Australia, and work as an editor at Science Magazine.

9. If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

I’d love to go forward—I want to know what comes next! I know what happened in history, but what comes in our future? Will we conquer the stars? Will we blow ourselves up or totally destroy our planet with pollution and overpopulation? Will we ever be able to “beam” ourselves around, just like in Star Trek? LOL...all those questions.

10. Kate, please tell us more about your recent release by Kensington Aphrodisia, “WOLF TALES 10”.

Writing Wolf Tales 10 was weird—I knew from the beginning that one of the characters would die. I think I’d known it since she was first introduced to the series, but I had no idea when or how, or what would happen next. The entire story unfolded for me, day by day, without any advance planning, so I was totally surprised by some of the things that happened. There’s a part, about half way through, where a totally NEW character shows up for morning coffee at Anton’s house in Montana that was totally unexpected. I wrote the paragraph and had sort of a “holy shit—where’d HE come from?” moment. I can’t say too much about the story without giving away spoilers, but needless to say, it’s a special book in the series, and I do think readers will be surprised by what happens.

11.  If you could compare “WOLF TALES 10” to your other books in the Wolf Tale series, how would you say it’s different?

Boy, that’s a tough one. All of my books are different—they have to be, or readers would quickly grow bored with the series, but this one answers a lot of questions, introduces new characters, takes away an old character and gives her a new role. I was beginning to get hints from my editor that I might want to think about winding up the series, so I wrote it with the concept in mind that Wolf Tales 12 might be the last. When you figure in all the Chanku novellas, #12 is actually the 21st story in the series, so it’s going to be time to switch to something new by then, and that “ending in sight” had an effect on how I wrote Wolf Tales 10.

At this point, however, I’m hoping my publisher will pick up the new Chanku series I’ve proposed—one that will follow the next generation with all the babies grown up and finding their way. I’ll be announcing that as soon as I hear something.

12.  Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

For me, I’d have to say story, but only because my voice is who I am, how I write, and, to be honest, not something I feel I have much control over. I am who I am, and my voice is representative of Kate Douglas, author. It’s what makes my books mine, so the only thing I can control—at least to a certain extent—is the story. And I say that with the caveat that my characters generally take over after the first few pages, which leaves me scrambling to type as fast as they talk. I would imagine it’s a combination of voice and story that makes a book work—an author’s personal rhythm that appeals to her readers.

13. Kate, please tell us where we can find you out in cyber world. For desperate readers like me, we just need to know…:)

LOL...I’m everywhere! You can find me on my website at www.katedouglas.com with links to my erotic works at www.katedouglas.com/eroticromance. I have full-chapter excerpts of all my books on my website.

I’m at Facebook in two places—my personal profile is at www.facebook.com/katedouglas.author and my fan page is at www.facebook.com/katedouglas.authorpage I’ve also got a monthly newsletter that goes out, with contests and prizes. You can sign up for that with the link on the front page of my website. I blog on the fourth of every month at www.aphrodisiaauthors.com/blog/ and twice a month at www.runningwithquills.com. And I answer all my email. Readers can write to me at kate@katedouglas.com.

14.  I know this is a difficult question with there being so many amazing authors out there to choose from but who are some of the GOT-TO-HAVE authors in your TBR pile?

There are so many “auto-buys” for me. Just off the top of my head, I’d have to list: Angela Knight, Jayne Ann Krentz, Stella Cameron, Lori Foster, Christine Feehan, JR Ward, Elizabeth Amber, Donna Grant, Susan Andersen, Anne Stuart, Robyn Carr, JL Langley, Stella Cameron, Elizabeth Lowell, Devyn Quinn, Lori Handeland, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Alyssa Day, Yasmine Galenorn and...well, needless to say, there are a lot of favorites and you can probably tell why my bookshelves are bulging! I always have to have a book to read and generally read at least four or five a week, and that’s not counting the manuscripts editors send to me for quotes, which is a great way to find new authors!

15. What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?

I’ve got LOTS of things coming up! Wolf Tales 10, obviously, and then there’s HellFire, the next in my DemonSlayers series, coming out on August 31, followed by Nocturnal, an anthology I’m in with Jacquelyn Frank. My story in that one is part of the DemonSlayers series, a novella called Crystal Dreams. HellFire features Ginny Jones and Alton of Artigos, both introduced in DemonFire. Crystal Dreams introduces a witch named Mari Schwartz (actually...Marigold Moonbeam Schwartz) and Darius, a Lemurian guardsman.

After Nocturnal, the next release isn’t until the end of December, when Wolf Tales 11 comes out. It’s another different story, where Keisha and Anton get involved in a plot to assassinate the president. Though it’s all obviously fiction and political names are never mentioned, the first time I saw Michelle Obama, I KNEW she was Keisha Rialto’s twin! She looked exactly as I’d pictured Keisha, so I had to write a story where Keisha would have to take the part of the First Lady in a convoluted scheme to protect her life. It’s a very sexy, suspenseful story that once again brings the entire pack together—it’s got a special ending I think readers will love. Here’s hoping!

I’d like to thank Kate Douglas for stopping by and spending time with us, it’s been a blast getting to know more about you and your books. I wish you all the best and much success in everything you do. :)

Thank you so much.

Over the Edge Book Reviews
with
New York Times Bestselling
author
Jocelynn Drake

1.  What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

One of the best parts of being a writer is getting to spend a large chunk of my day in a world of my own creation with some characters that I consider my best friends. I love spending the day with Mira and Danaus, watching from the sidelines as they get in and out of trouble. It’s a rush.

One of the worst parts of being a writer would have to be the deadlines. I’ve always been a procrastinator so I don’t always have some of the best work habits. This has resulted in books being finished just before deadline when I should have finished them sooner so I could give them a little more polish before handing them in to my editor.

2. Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

That one is really hard to choose. I’ve taken my characters to Egypt, England, Peru, Italy, Austria, and Hungary as well as spent a little time in the United States. I’ve had to do a lot of research for these distant locations that I’ve not had a chance yet to visit. My favorite would have to be Machu Picchu in Peru. Learning the layout of the city that remained hidden in the clouds for centuries for its discovery is amazing. You get a sneak peek into the culture of the Incan people and yet are left with the wonderfully tantalizing mystery of why they ultimately left this paradise in the sky.

3.  Do you have a favorite motto?

“Write like you’ve already got the contract” is a motto and piece of advice that I received from an author friend a long time ago. It advises new writers to always keep writing and pushing ahead because the process of writing and finishing a book, regardless of whether it ever gets published is an excellent way of improving your writing skills.

4.  Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?

My favorite fictional hero would have to be Bruce Wayne/Batman. I love his tragic story and tortured soul, and yet I’m completely lost in his endless drive and determination.

My favorite fictional heroine would probably have to be Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. I love the fact that she’s intelligent, witty, and determined. That and I’m just a sucker for the wonderful love story between her and Darcy.

5. Which fictional character would you hang out with?

Honestly, if I could, I would love to hang out with Mira from the Dark Days series. She’s intelligent with a twisted sense of humor. And it doesn’t help that I’m a bit of a pyromaniac myself and what would be cooler that hanging out with someone that can control fire at will? I would love to sit down and hear her stories of the past several centuries and get her view on how the world has changed around her.

6. What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

That is a tough question because I love all of my covers. I think my favorite by a small margin is the one for Dawnbreaker. That one seems so alive to me as if a photographer caught her just a moment before she was going to break into some serious butt-kicking action.

7. What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

I think most people would be surprised to know that I still have a dayjob, even though it has dropped to part time. For the past 10 years I have been a financial analyst and write articles on a daily basis about the stock market. I have been interviewed on both TV and the radio about my opinions on where the stock market is going to go. The stock market is a passion of mine because of its always changing and unexpected nature. Despite your best analysis, there are always surprises waiting around the corner to keep things exciting.

8.  What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

I can’t think of anything particularly strange, but I am just simply flabbergasted by the number of pages there are where my name appears. It’s intimidating to think that there is so much of me floating around on the Internet.

If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

I would definitely go backward in time. I’m more interested in the past than I ever will be about the future. I’m interested in old customs, styles of dress, and watching the awe of new inventions that I have come to take for granted.

10. Jocelynn, please tell us more about your recent release by Harper Collins, “PRAY FOR DAWN”.

PRAY FOR DAWN is an exciting release for me because it is the first book in the series that is exclusively told from Danaus’s point of view. This book takes a closer look at the true owner of Danaus’s soul and his struggle for his freedom. At the same time, Mira has made a deal that is quickly going sour on her, making her a danger to herself and those around her. I also love the fact that you finally get a better picture of Danaus’s opinion of Mira as she is view through his eyes.

11. Would you give readers a little teaser about your July 2010 Harper Collins release of “WAIT FOR DUSK”?

WAIT FOR DUSK picks up directly where PRAY FOR DAWN leaves off in an effort to answer questions that are left hanging by the previous book. WAIT FOR DUSK takes Mira and Danaus back to Venice as Mira must officially take her place on the vampire ruling Coven. At the same time, the naturi are creating havoc around the world and Mira and friends are sent to Budapest to deal with the naturi infestation only to run into a larger plot to kill both Mira and Danaus. Not only does WAIT FOR DUSK turn up the heat between Mira and Danaus, but it also brings in a new unexpected horror from Mira’s past.
12. Question: Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

For me, it’s all about the story. For each book, there is a driving force that pushes the characters forward, whether they want to go or not. The story is that driving force, with its own energy that needs to be respected. There are things that have happened in books that I didn’t plan or didn’t want to happen, but the story demanded it because it made it stronger and fuller for the reader.

Pricilla (Priss) Paterson has waited a long time for this moment. She is not only out for revenge against Coburn. She wants to shoot him right between the eyes. Twenty-five years ago he kidnapped and brutally abused her mother leaving her for dead. Priss’s mother escaped but not without some major head damage. Priss has lived a sheltered life. Priss and she lived under the radar and off the grid to avoid Coburn hunting them down and kill them. Well, her dearly departed mother no longer has to worry. Priss is doing the hunting and will exact her own kind of revenge. Her only forcible future is that drop dead gorgeous force of nature headed her way. She has never seen a man like Trace all bulge and muscles in all the right places and not an ounce of fat…the man is one serious specimen of a man.

For Trace he doesn’t know what this little spitfire’s games is but he will be damned if he will let her get even an inch close to Coburn. Try as he might to ignore the sexual charge that is between them Trace can’t help wondering what that lush tight curvy little body would feel like under him.

Bullets are flying. Someone out to kill them and if being drugged isn’t enough how about trying to stay out of the line of fire of your so-called fathers .35. With all the adrenaline running through their veins it is a wonder they do not explode before the hit the sheets. How to keep one smart-ass hellion safe while bringing down a corrupt business man is anyone guess but trace and Priss are willing to give it their all.

I don’t know why but while am writing TRACE OF FEVER I have Shania Twain’s hit ‘I Feel Like A Woman’. But I quickly realize that is exactly what Trace River does for the romance reader. You cannot help but get all wrapped up him Trace’s uber alpha sexual masculinity. It practically oozes off the page. Trace is so hot that I forgot I was reading a book and was actually picturing him in all of his buff glory. Trace does make a very, very decadent and delicious piece of eye candy. Push all that aside and Lori foster has written such a well-rounded character that I would love to have a man like Trace in my corner any day. For me, Trace River is a true blue golden haired white knight. Every moment spent indulging in TRACE OF FEVER was well worth getting caught up in this thrillingly innovated sexually charged read. To say Trace was my soul purpose to pick up this book would be the correct assumption.

But the reason I kept reading was because I freaking ( yes, I said it) loved the chemistry between Priss and Trace. Here you have this big Hulk of a man and this spit-fire of a woman butting heads. Their sexual attraction was potent from the moment they laid eyes on each other. The pages of TRACE OF FEVER are so hot you will need a fire extinguisher handy.

TRACE OF FEVER reunites us with Dare Macintosh and Molly Alexander (WHEN YOU DARE) and Jackson Savor who place a pivotal role in saving Priss’s pretty little bum from a very embarrassing shower scene that you have got to read. Let us just say trace is still fuming over it in SAVOR THE DANGER

In TRACE OF FEVER this story also deals with human trafficking and its repercussions. But for me Ms. Foster took a hideous hot topic and made it into a sensible prose that you walked away thinking of the people that have suffered this fate and how they came to grips. I want to take a moment and discuss the way Trace felt about waiting in the wind for his sister to be rescued. You see his sister was taken a cross state line and ended up in Mexico where Trace’s beautiful rugged face was very recognizable. It is not easy for a take charge kind of guy to wait around and let someone else doe his work. This is why when Priss entered the picture there was not a snowballs chance in HELL that he would not protect her. The big lug is so tender hearted that you got to love him. This leads me to my smaller theme of trust and letting go that ran through TRACE OF FEVER. For control freak like Trace he is a man’s man and was not, at first ready to let go. For him, when he spoke he expected Priss to listen, but she has her own mind. And when a woman falls in love there is nothing that man can say to make her come to his rescue and charge into his life.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to share this incredible emotionally charge book. The characters leaped off the page with their extraordinary courage and wicked sense of humor. I hope you take some time to check out New York Times bestselling author Lori foster’s TRACE OF FEVER. It is well worth the indulgence.

The one woman he couldn't have was the only woman he desired…

She may be aloof, and more pretty than gorgeous, but Alani Rivers is the kind of woman a hot-blooded mercenary can't forget, no matter how hard he tries. So when Jackson Savor wakes up next to the naked, sleeping beauty—with no memory of what happened—he knows he's been drugged… even if Alani doesn't.

After she was kidnapped, Alani swore she'd never trust another man again. Still, something about this strong, sexy hero with the tender touch makes her want to believe him. As Jackson hunts downs a mysterious intruder, he swears he'll move heaven and earth to keep Alani safe. But what really happened that night? And will the truth bring them closer than they ever thought possible—or put Alani squarely in harm's way again?

~REVIEW~

I am shouting out loud and proclaiming to all that I am THE biggest fan-a-fite for New York Times Bestselling author, Lori Foster. And it seems to be getting worse since I just—literally finished SAVOR THE DANGER the third release in her incredible Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor which will be released this July.

Waking up to a beautiful naked woman beside him would not be uncommon for professional mercenary Jackson Savor. Waking up next to the one woman that drives him insane with lust, Alani River's warm naked body with her dazzling smile with sleepy sex eyes starring up at him and not remember how either of them ended up in his bed.…well that's PRICELESS.   Jackson has been head over heals in lust with Alani from the moment he met her. After being kidnapped by human trafficker Alani has been a little bit skittish, aloof, but the beauty is trying to put her live back together. Jackson has watched from a distance as her professional mercenary brother Trace and Dare Macintosh treat her with kid gloves.

Alani Rivers is not some fragile china doll that will break at the slightest touch. After her kidnapping and being scared out of her mind Alani has slowly put her life back together. Before the kidnapping twenty-four-year old Alani admits she was naive. Always being protected by her big bad brother especially after their parent’s death Alani admits to being clueless. After this atrocious experience she has more balls than any one will give her credit. She might be blonde and dainty looking but she is as fierce as the next girl if only Alani could believe in herself a bit more.

She finally decides to give herself and Jackson ago only to wake up-next to him after the would shattering and life changing sexcapades only to have him jump from the bed, head to the bathroom and puke his brains out. If that was not embarrassing and degrading he tells her he cannot remember a thing. Great, after everything they said and did to each Jackson has found it unforgettable.

Well, if thins were so easy for this professional mercenary but they never are. It seems this sex-god was drugged and that is why he is having this slight attack of slight amnesia. Great, so who would want to drug him? And what in the world is going on.

Jackson lives in a dangerous world. He has seen and done things that would make your insides curdle. Now someone is out to get him and Alani is stuck smack in the middle of it. The danger is heading their way but Jackson has sworn to protect her. Alani has sworn to prove she is braver than she looks. An in the middle the undeniable sexual chemistry is there taking them over like a tsunami. Danger is coming to greet them at their door step and Jackson will do everything in his power to keep the one woman who found away to get underneath his skin out of harm way. In the end he just might find the love he never believed in.

SAVOR THE DANGER had me up all night huddles under the covers with my book lamp clipped onto my paper back.  Desperately a devoured this book from the moment I read Jackson woke up next to Alani and he could not remember.  I honestly laughed when I read that. Most people might not but I have reading and was introduced to Jackson in WHEN YOU DARE and really got addicted to his infectious good-old-boy charm.  To say Jackson Savor was the main reason I stayed up all night to read SAVOR THE DANGER is like asking is the Pope Catholic.  The difference is reading Jackson and Alani story was like the perfect hot fudge brownie with whipped crème and a cherry sprinkled with pecans on top.  Jackson is just that yummy.

I admit I could not wait for Alani River’s story.  From the moment she was rescued by Dare Macintosh in WHEN YOU DARE I knew author Lori foster was going to give her one heck of a story.  Alani of course is sweet, kind and has a heart of gold.  This young woman went from being kidnapped by human traffickers to fighting to regain her life back.  And still she gives herself no credit for surviving.  I was so grateful for the fact Jackson did not treat her like a victim.  He saw her more than some fragile woman but he was able to see the strong woman who survived a heinous crime.

SAVOR THE DANGER reunited us with our favorite characters Dare Macintosh and Molly Alexander (WHEN YOU DARE) and Alani’s brother Trace River and Priscilla (Priss) Patterson (TRACE OF FEVER). A few new exciting characters where introduced.  Arizona Storm is a young twenty year old woman set out on vengeance who Jackson rescued three years ago.  Bounty hunter extraordinaire, Spencer Lark who is just as uber gorgeous and hard bodied as Dare, Trace and Jackson.

I really enjoyed the way the three books interconnected. Ms. Foster chose to deal with hot button issue that really has been hidden in the shadows. Of course I’ve seen television shows like CSI: Miami, Law & Order: SUV and others do their fair share of getting to the public about the epidemic of human trafficking, but never really understood. SAVOR THE DANGER was about the after effects of being kidnapped, being rescued then dealing with the aftereffects of trying to put your life back together. Wrapped around the high octane action, the erotic sensual love scenes and the wicked wit of the characters was a theme of acceptance. Face your fears no matter what they are. And realize that you cannot control the uncontrollable.

I am so appreciative that I am able to share one of my favorite author whose writing is genuine, heart wrenching and never fails to get my heart racing.

OVER THE EDGE BOOK REVIEWS
QUESTIONS FOR
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING
AUTHOR PAMELA PALMER

1.  What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

The best part is working in my pajamas. The worst? Revisions.

2. Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

That’s the great thing about writing contemporary urban fantasy. There’s very little research. The history of the immortal races in the Feral world -- their legends, abilities, and powers – is all in my head and nowhere else. Lucky for me (or really, because I planned it this way), the Feral Warrior stories take place in the Washington, D.C. area, where I live. My research consists mostly of quick trips to Great Falls or D.C. for setting details. And I’m always looking for interesting places to set the scenes in my stories. When I started exploring the story for PASSION UNTAMED, I knew Paenther had been captured by the Mage, but I didn’t know where they were going to keep him. Originally, I’d thought it might be the basement of an old house, but I wasn’t happy with that. It didn’t intrigue me. While I was debating this, my husband and I were on a road trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains on I-81 when we saw a sign for Dixie Caverns. My husband, who’d been there before, said, “You’d like those. One of these days, we’ll have to stop there.” Immediately, I knew I’d found what I was looking for – caverns. My reply to my husband: “How about today?” The Dixie Caverns are tiny compared to the caverns in PASSION UNTAMED, but they absolutely possessed that close, almost spooky atmosphere I was looking for.

3. Do you have a favorite motto?

A favorite, no. But one that I love is Henry Ford’s, (and I’ve seen this written a number of ways), “Whether you think that you can, or that you can’t, you are usually right.”

4. Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?

My heart belongs to Aragorn (from Lord of the Rings). Favorite heroine? I’ve got to say, Princess Leia from Star Wars.

5. Which fictional character would you hang out with?

I just saw Prince of Persia and fell in love with Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, Prince Dastan. He’s so cute with that impish smile! Yes, Prince Dastan.

6. What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

I LOVE the cover of RAPTURE UNTAMED. When I first heard it was going to be black and white, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it, but it’s dynamite! (Okay, maybe I’m a little prejudice – after all, they even put Jag in camouflage pants! – but I think it’s a fabulous cover.)

7. What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

Ha. For years I wouldn’t watch R-rated movies because the violence bothered me too much. Needless to say, I got over it.

8. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

That there are a lot more Pamela Palmers than I thought there were.

9.  If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

As a kid, I used to have this discussion with my friends. They all wanted to go back in time, to the old west. I wanted to go forward. (I was addicted to Star Trek.) These days, I think I’d go back, especially if I could pick the time and place. At this point, I think the future just holds a lot more gadgets. I think I’d rather go back to the past, to ancient Rome or medieval Scotland. Having written two Scottish historical time travels (as Pamela Montgomerie), I’d love to see the world of my Montgomerie ancestors.

10. Pamela, please tell us more about your fourth release in the Feral Warrior series by Avon Books, “RAPTURE UNTAMED”.

RAPTURE UNTAMED is Jag’s book. If you’ve read any of the Feral Warriors books, you know Jag is a smart ass with a foul mouth and a knack for infuriating the other Ferals. In this book, he finally meets his match in petite red-headed Therian Guard, Olivia. Olivia has no use for him and hates that she’s so attracted to him. She isn’t the least bit intimidated by him until he learns her secret – a secret that could get her killed. And suddenly the trouble-maker Jag hold her life in his hands. A nightmare come true.

11.  If you could compare “RAPTURED UNTAMED” to your other books in your Feral Warrior series, how would you say it’s different?

I’m not sure it is different. Like the others, it’s another step in the larger external plot with lots of action, lots of romance. Jag was a blast to write, but a little tricky, given his bad attitude. I absolutely fell in love with him once I understood what made him tick, and I think readers will, too.

12.  Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

I’m all about story. While each of the Feral Warriors books is a stand- alone romance, each is also another chapter in a much larger series plot that will eventually have an end. I love story, big stories, with high stakes and nasty villains. But stories like that usually short-change the romance. And I love romance. What I hope to do with the Feral Warriors series is to tell one of those big, sweeping fantasy tales through a series of individual romances.

ABOUT THIS BOOK
Santa Louisa is still reeling from the lethal rampage of the demon Envy, one of the Seven Deadly Sins released from Hell by black magic. The fiendish entity was finally trapped, but when more bodies bearing satanic marks surface in Los Angeles, demon hunter Moira O’Donnell fears the terror has only just begun.

Racing to L.A., Moira discovers that the City of Angels is fast becoming the demon Lust’s decadent playground. She suspects another coven is at work, aided indirectly by her diabolical mother, the powerful witch Fiona. But when Moira’s unwanted psychic powers intensify, she fears her connection to the underworld is putting everyone she cares about in grave danger.

As supernatural war erupts, Moira and smoldering, seductive Rafe Cooper are caught in the crossfire. Cornered by mortal and unearthly enemies, they must master all their own powers to survive—and to understand if the intensely passionate feelings that bind them are Lust’s demon magic or true desire.

OVER THE EDGE BOOK REVIEWS
QUESTIONS WITH
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR
ALLISON BRENNAN

1. What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

There are so many “best” parts to being a writer, it’s hard to narrow it down! I think the single best thing is that I’m doing what I love to do: write stories. And I get paid for it. There are added benefits, such as meeting my favorite authors, talking about books all the time, and having flexible hours. (Though that’s a double-edged sword because I’m never truly not writing or thinking about writing!)

The worst? Trying to make every book better than the last and not knowing if I’m succeeding. Knowing too much about the business. And knowing too much about storytelling—sometimes, I’m writing and I have the instincts to know that something isn’t worried and the knowledge that I’m not good enough to make it shine the way I want it to.

2.  Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

In paranormal, many things had me opening my eyes. In my research for CARNAL SIN, I researched “Sex Magic.” The darker side of sex magic was extremely disturbing. In my romantic thrillers, when I finally understood what happened during decomposition, I got the chills. Definitely eye-opening!

3.  Do you have a favorite motto?

“Writer’s write.” – Stephen King.

4. Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?

Hero: Joe Pike (Robert Crais), Stu Redman (Stephen King), Elvis Donnelly (Susan Anderson), Charlie Crews (LIFE, cancelled TV series), Peter Petrelli (HEROES, TV-cancelled! Very sad.) Han Solo (Star Wars—I had such a crush when I was eight!)

Heroine: Eve Dallas (JD Robb), Veronica Mars (TV character), Buffy Summers (TV character)

5.  Which fictional character would you hang out with?

Sam and Dean Winchester! In books? Hmm . . . Maybe Sherlock Holmes. Or Elvis Cole. Or Jack Reacher. Maybe Veronica Mars. Or Bobbie Faye Sumrall . . .

6.  What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

Just one? I love cover art. I can’t pick just one. I have two favorites of my own, KILLING FEAR and ORIGINAL SIN; I also love the Australian cover for ORIGINAL SIN. For others, Roxanne St. Claire’s new EDGE OF SIGHT is stunning, sexy and suspenseful. David Hewson’s GARDEN OF EDEN is amazing. And I have been enamored with so many of the fabulous covers on YA books—the ones that have particularly impressed me are FALLEN by Lauren Kate; HUSH, HUSH by Becca Fitzpatrick; and THE CLOCKWORK ANGEL by Cassandra Clare. I think the best covers the last couple years have been in YA.

7.  What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

Nothing. I have no secrets! I lead a very boring life, and I blog about all the exciting things that DO happen, like viewing an autopsy at the morgue, being a victim during SWAT training, and touring Quantico.

Hmm, maybe that I listen to hard rock music and have an affinity for both old classic hard rock like The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Led Zeppelin, and newer hard rock bands like Three Days Grace, Nickelback, and Eagles of Death Metal. I write better when I’m listening to very loud music.

8. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

There is an Allison Brennan who competed in the Olympics for diving and recently came in 3rd in a major national competition I love getting her Google alerts!

9. If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

Neither. I take my motto from The Who: “I like every minute of the day.” I try not to dwell on the past and what-could-have-beens, and being a fan of science fiction, nothing good ever comes from knowing about what might happen in the future!

10. Allison, please tell us more about your recent release “CARNAL SIN".

When three men end up in the morgue with a demon’s mark, Moira and Rafe travel to Los Angeles where they discover a sex coven is sacrificing adulterous men to a succubus. As they dig deeper into the murders, they uncover darker supernatural crimes and fear their passion for each other is tainted by the demon Lust.

What I love most about CARNAL SIN is that I blended what I love about crime thrillers—the police procedure, forensics, and escalating violence—with the supernatural. I had a parallel police investigation to Rafe and Moira’s supernatural investigation, and when the two collided it was so much fun for me as a writer.

I also introduced Rico Cortese, Moira’s trainer from St. Michael’s Order. He was mentioned in ORIGINAL SIN, but bringing him into the story really heightened the tension because he and Rafe butt heads immediately. Rico is an extremely interesting character to me, and I can’t wait to see how he develops over the rest of the series. Anthony and Skye take a back seat in this book in order to develop Moira and Rafe’s relationship, but their sub-plot sets up the main conflict for book three, MORTAL SIN.

11. If you could compare “CARNAL SIN” to your first book in THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS series, “ORIGINAL SIN” how would you say it’s different?

CARNAL SIN has a lot more police procedure than ORIGINAL SIN—there’s more of everything! More violence, more emotion, more sex—it’s a bigger, deeper story. Rafe and Moira’s relationship also develops as they work together to track the demon Lust. While ORIGINAL SIN set the stage for the Seven Deadly Sins being released from Hell, my characters reacted more to the events and had incomplete information to work with. In CARNAL SIN, they know a lot more (or think they do!) and are far more proactive in handling both the supernatural crimes and human criminals. There’s the same paranormal overlay in our world, but I had more confidence writing the story because I’d already laid the foundation in the first book, so I think it is over-all a stronger storyline.

12.  Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

That’s a tough question! I think that a writer’s voice is so ingrained with them that if they try to change their natural voice, the story is weaker. But I don’t think about my voice; I simply write in a rhythm that feels natural to me. It’s the story that I’m most interested in, learning about my characters and how they’ll react to the dangers they face. That’s what I love about writing!

13. Allison, please tell us where we can find you out in cyber world. For desperate readers like me, we just need to know…:)

LOL! I have two websites, one for the Seven Deadly Sins series which has original content and added bonuses for fans of the series, including a free original short story. http://sevendeadlysinsbooks.com/. My main website is http://www.allisonbrennan.com and I try to update it monthly with covers, news, events, and the like. I post on my Facebook page daily: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Allison-Brennan/260434194559 and for those who like twitter, I’m just learning how to use it. http://twitter.com/allison_brennan
AND because I obviously don’t have enough to do, I blog bi-monthly at http://www.murderati.com/ and http://www.murdershewrites.com. Whenever I have a new blog, I always post on Twitter and FB.

14.  I know this is a difficult question with there being so many amazing authors out there to choose from but who are some of the GOT-TO-HAVE authors in your TBR pile?

This is a hard question! I am a devout follower of the JD Robb series. I’m three books behind. I am eagerly looking forward to Roxanne St. Claire’s new romantic suspense series. I have YA author Suzanne Collins THE HUNGER GAMES in my TBR pile because my daughter loves her books. I have UNDER THE DOME by Stephen King at the top of my stack (but it’s a hard book to carry around!) JT Ellison writes the Taylor Jackson series set in Nashville, and I’m very much looking forward to the next book THE IMMORTALS. And supernatural thriller author, Alexandra Sokoloff, has a new release THE BOOK OF SHADOWS which I’m excited about because it blends police procedure with the supernatural. I was lucky enough to read the ARC of ENEMY LOVER by Karin Harlow which came out at the end of May—I don’t usually like vampire stories, but this was different and a very fast, gripping read. It’s really hard to pick—there are always the staples—John Saul, J.D. Robb, Tess Gerritsen, Michael Connelly, Lisa Gardner—they never disappoint me and are on my auto-buy list.

15. What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?

I just finished my next romantic thriller, book one of the Lucy Kincaid series called LOVE ME TO DEATH, which will be available on 12.28.10. I’m starting Lucy #2, KISS ME, KILL ME which will be on sale 2.22.11. Lucy was a character from a previous book who I fell in love with and I’m excited to write a series with her as the lead character. The books are set on the East Coast (a first for me!) and in preparation for the series, I toured Quantico and the DC area. These stories are similar in tone and feeling as all my romantic thrillers, except that it’s a series with continuing characters and a multi-book relationship between Lucy Kincaid and Sean Rogan, a security expert and private investigator who has an interesting past and family, and works in the gray areas of the law.

And after that? I plan to write MORTAL SIN, book three of the Seven Deadly Sins series. No set publication date yet, but watch my website for details as they develop!

I’d like to thank Allison Brennan for stopping by and spending time with us, it’s been a blast getting to know more about you and your books. I wish you all the best and much success in everything you do. :)
