A FORBIDDEN LOVE WILL FULFILL HER DESTINY
Roxanne “Roxy” Banfield refuses to be like her mother, a fertility witch who uses sex as nothing more than a magical weapon. Roxy rejects that life and is determined to become mortal to pursue her dream of real love and a family. All she has to do is avoid meeting the one man whose sensuality can release her powers. But steering clear of this magnetic stranger is easier said than done.
Wing Slayer Hunter Kieran “Key” DeMicca channels the dark violence that lives inside him into a popular comic book series about an ancient dragon named Dyfyr, but only Key knows that Dyfyr is real. Lately he finds himself drawing images of a young woman in peril, and assumes that she’s just a product of his imagination—until he meets Roxy. Struck by her beauty and her resemblance to his sketches, he feels compelled to protect her. As steamy magic, lethal danger, and timeless love collide, Roxy must become what she swore she would never be—and inadvertently awake a part of Key that will threaten to destroy them both.

Jennifer Lyon
1. What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?
The best part is the fans! I’m in awe of how much they get into the series, and talk about the characters. The second best part is getting to do something I love.
The worst part…that’s harder. I think it’s the stress of deadlines with things like juggling when I have one book due soon, revisions on another, promo work to do…and I’m struggling with a plot line. Things tend to come in big huge massive waves, and it can be overwhelming.
But there is the upside, I love what I do!
2. Why do you write?
I always joke that I write to give the voices in my head something to do. But that’s not all that far off from the truth. From my earliest memories, I have had constant story lines going on in my head. It’s just something I’ve always done. Maybe it’s because my sister and brothers were so much older than me, that I played by myself so much as a child. I created fictional people to play with…and maybe I never out grew it.
3. Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.
Wow just one? Research often turns in a feast for me. But one thing that stays with me is the research I’ve done on the witch hunts. I discovered a famous medieval treatises on witches titled The Malleus Maleficarum (which is Latin for “The Hammer of Witches” or “Hexenhammer” in German). It was a guide on how to identify, interrogate and convict witches.
A fun thing I discovered--one of my characters, Phoenix (hero of NIGHT MAGIC) loves Chuck Norris jokes. So I was doing some researched on the Internet and found several websites dedicated to Chuck Norris jokes. Turns out Phoenix isn’t alone in his appreciation of Chuck Norris jokes!
4. Do you have a favorite motto?
“You can’t see the road ahead of you if you’re looking back.” I really believe in letting the past go and moving on. It’s so easy to waste time and emotional energy on the past that can’t be changed.
5. Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?
Oh so many! But I’m going to go with Sin (Sinead Donnelly) and Con (Conall Dearghul) from Larissa Ione’s SIN UNDONE. These characters were so tortured and raw emotionally, and their journey to love was amazing to see. I love them both!
6. Which fictional character would you hang out with?
Roarke from J.D.Robb’s “In Death” Series. He’s smart, hot and sexy. Oh and I just saw the movie THOR…I would so hang out with Thor, LOLOL!
I’d hang out with Sin (see answer above) too, but I’d try really hard not to piss her off.
7. What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?
I love the cover for SINFUL MAGIC! I liked the first three covers in the series, but I think they really stepped up their game on this latest cover.
But for other covers, one that caught my eye was VISIONS OF SKYFIRE by Regan Hastings. I love the color and drama! http://www.goodreads.com/book/photo/10553081-visions-of-skyfire
And for something a little racier, I like Lori Foster’s WHEN YOU DARE cover.
8. What would readers be surprised to learn about you?
Maybe that I wrote mysteries and romances under my real name of Jennifer Apodaca.
9. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?
Lately, when I googled my real name and followed the trail, I discovered that one of the older anthologies I was in, WICKED WOMEN WHODUNIT, will be re-released in paperback. I was surprised! Sometimes, the authors really are the last to know!
10. If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?
Forward! The future is the unknown, and that makes it more interesting!
11. Jennifer, congratulations on the fourth release in your Wing Slayer Hunter series, “SINFUL MAGIC” by Ballentine Books released on May 31, 2011. Would you mind telling us a bit more about it?.
Thank you! SINFUL MAGIC turned out to be incredibly hard to write—I think because I loved the characters so much, and I was driven to tell their story in the most compelling way. But how do you capture undying love in words? While the characters are caught up in a dark, action packed journey? And oh yeah, there’s an ancient dragon rousing from centuries of slumber added to the mix? It’s tough! I felt I owed Key, Roxy and Dyfyr—the dragon—the very best story I could tell.
In the story, Key struggles against a growing darkness inside of him, while Roxy resists her magic in the hopes of becoming mortal. Soon, however, they are thrown together in an epic battle against evil. Roxy must do the one thing she swore she never would—unleash her passion to embrace her magic. And Key must learn to trust the waking dragon, and himself.
12. Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?
Voice. Voice is hard to define, but it is what brings life to the story. It’s “how” the writer tells the story. A strong voice can make a so-so story line sing, while a weak voice can ruin a strong story.
13. Jennifer, please share with desperate readers where they can connect with you in cyber world. =)

14. I know this is a difficult question with there being so many amazing authors out there to choose from but who are some of the GOT-TO-HAVE authors in your TBR pile?
I can’t possibly name them all, but I’ll throw out a few: Regan Hastings/Maureen Child, Laura Wright, Kate Carlisle, Larissa Ione, Jeaniene Frost. And then there’s my latest discovery, Thea Harrison—I recently read her book DRAGON BOUND and loved it.
15. What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?
I’m hoping to continue the Wing Slayer Hunter series and will let readers know as soon as I know for sure!

Thanks for hosting - hope I win!
I'm excited to read this book -actually any by Jennifer Lyon. Thank you for this post, it introduced me to a new paranormal romance author. I've been searching new ones. The premise sounds great, I can't wait to see the chemistry between the characters develop.
From the cover, I can already see the chemistry depicted. It's really sensual and makes me want to get to know the characters and read their story.

From what I've read of the interview, it seems that Wing Slayer Hunter series is a paranormal romance. Does Jennifer have any plans about writing urban fantasy book(s)?

I've not read any dragon books. There seem to be quite a few coming out. This series sounds like it would be a good one to start with. There are many new to me plot points that would be interesting to explore.

Great cover. The dark blue and black color give it the feel of night time and the dragon is coming alive on his body.
