Not all marriages last forever!

Suzanne Jefferson is broke, which is why she’s given up charity work for wedding planning. Fortunately, she has a high-profile client, and best of all, he’s paid in advance. There are just two teensy problems: The bride is a bona fide bridezilla, and Suzanne’s ex-husband is the best man. At least she thought he was her ex-husband!

But this one might…

Two years after their marriage fell apart, stock car race driver Ryder Jefferson still can’t stop thinking about Suzanne. Which is why he isn’t too upset that, due to a glitch, the two are still technically married. Now he’s imagining easing Suzanne’s woes by satisfying her needs in the bedroom. After all, that’s the one room they never argued in. Besides, with wedding bells ringing all around them, Ryder is wondering if,even though they’d quit the race a few laps too early, they can still come on strong with a big, romantic finish!

What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

The best part of being a writer is the freedom to create my own characters, to tell the stories I want to tell. I get paid to make stuff up and it’s awesome! The worst is the frustration I feel when my vision isn’t being realized on the page and I struggle to find the solution to fix it. I never want to disappointment myself or my readers.

Why do you write?

I’m not qualified to do anything else. Lol. I write because I love it. I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was six years old and I can’t imagine being able to actually stem the flow of words. It’s an inherent part of me.

Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

That Bayer marketed heroin as a sleeping aid for babies back in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Yikes.

Do you have a favorite motto?

“Aut viam inveniam aut faciam.” It’s Latin for “I’ll either find a way or I’ll make one” and I have it tattooed on my forearm.

Which fictional character would you hang out with?

Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. She’s witty and fun and intelligent and I think we would enjoy making observations about society together.

What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

I love my cover for Fallen. I think it’s beautiful and poignant. I also like the cover for my young adult book, Demon Envy. The girl on the cover looks adorable and pouty, a perfect teen.

What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

That I was going to go to law school for international and maritime law but changed my mind after an internship at the bar association. That was a close call!

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

I actually never Google my name. I don’t want to know. I live in blissful ignorance.

If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

Backwards. I don’t want to rush ahead and see what I’m not meant to see yet, but going back in time would be a fun opportunity to experience first hand culture and events that had intrigued me and brought us to where we are in time.

Erin would you please share more about your third intallment in your Fast Track series released by Berkley Sensation in 2010, "HOT FINISH".

Desire is about to reach its peak.

Suzanne Jefferson is broke, which is why she's given up charity work for wedding planning. Fortunately, she has a high-profile client-and best of all, he's paid in advance. There are just two teensy problems: the bride is a bona fide bridezilla, and Suzanne's stock racer ex- husband is the best man. At least she though he was her ex-husband...

11. Right around the cornor Evan Munroe and Kendall Hollbrook's story in "THE CHASE" will be released on April 5, 2011 by Berkley sensation. Please share a more about the next installment in your Fast Track series.

The Chase is the fourth book in the Fast Track series and features Evan Monroe, Elec’s brother, who we’ve seen in previous books. Evan is having a tough season driving and he has to deal with the fact that the first girl he ever loved, Kendall Holbrook, is a rookie star on the circuit. These two have unresolved issues a decade old, and a chemistry that has never dimmed. It was fun to write about a female driver and how she navigates her male dominated world.

Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

For me, it’s voice, or maybe more specifically, characters. What fascinates me is people, how they relate to each other, how the succeed and fail, how they love. That’s what I want to write about.

Erin, please tell us where we can find you out in cyber world. For desperate readers like me, we just have to know…=)

http://www.erinmccarthy.net/

I know this is a difficult question with there being so many amazing authors out there to choose from but who are some of the GOT-TO-HAVE authors in your TBR pile?

Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Teresa Medeiros, Anne Stuart, Mary Balogh, Connie Brockway… I wish I had more time to read! =)

15. What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?

This year I have THE CHASE on the shelves in April, then the final Fast Track book, SLOW RIDE, will be out in October, so I’m really excited about that. There will be a Christmas anthology, UNWRAPPED, out in October as well. In June, I will be in an anthology, THE PROMISE OF LOVE, with the wonderful Lori Foster, and all the proceeds from that book will go to benefit One-Way Farm, a home for neglected and abandoned children. Then lastly, BAD BOYS OF SUMMER will be re-released in August, so there’s plenty going on in 2011!

Erin, thank you for spending time with Over the Edge readers and myself it’s been a blast getting to know more about you and your books. =)

Thank you!!

A secret government unit is formed under the oversight of Adam Harrison, famed paranormal investigator. The six members he’s gathered know a little of the otherworldly each has honed a psychic talent of their own.

Jackson Crowe, part English, part Cheyenne, heads the group. Haunted by his experience with an ancestral ghost who saved his life as a child, and the recent murders of two previous teammates, Jackson can’t tell if Adam’s demoted him or given him an extraordinary opportunity. Despite his link to the realm of spirits, he’s well aware that the living commit the most heinous crimes, with spiritualist charlatans existing merely to fool and seduce the unwary.

To counterbalance Jackson’s careful skepticism, Adam Harrison has paired him with Angela Hawkins, a young woman who learned the painful lesson of loss at an early age. A police officer utilizing her paranormal intuition in Virginia, she already has her hands full. But Adam’s call to New Orleans is strong.

The case: In a historic mansion in New Orleans’s French Quarter, a senator’s wife falls to her death from a balcony. Most think she jumped, distraught over the loss of her young son. Some say she was pushed. And yet others believe she was beckoned by the ghostly spirits that inhabit the house once the site of a serial killer’s grisly work.

Whether supernatural or all too human, crimes of passion, greed and desire will cast the pair into danger of losing their lives…and their immortal souls.

1. What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

The best part of being a writer is that I make my hours. I'm very disciplined, but I can arrange work around research, conferences, and family! The worst . . . hm! Always worrying that what you've written is horrible!

2. Why do you write?

Because I can't do anything else. Seriously. I was working dinner theater and back up vocals in South Florida and couldn't make enough money to pay sitters once I had three of the five children. And literally, even with me home, the house was a disaster all the time. I'm horrible. For one, we needed the income. For two--I was desperate. I had to be able to do something else. And I devoured books as if I were a monster. I loved to read so much. I had dabbled in essays, and actually, one of my scholarships was for an essay, so I felt that I had to try writing.

3. Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

Oh, so much! I've gone so many places and done so many things for research. I think that one that stays with me was a battle re-enactment at Gettysburg. I'd never imagined what it had been like for those soldiers to walk straight out in the open toward people firing at them in the midst of horrible, choking thick-black smoke. And the medical tent! Heart-breaking. Of course, I know this extends to all wars, and my admiration and gratitude to all our men in the military is limitless.

4. Do you have a favorite motto?

Haha--friends joke that mine should be, "No good deed goes unpunished!"

5. Do you have a favorite fictional hero?

Favorite fictional heroine? So, so hard to choose! Maybe Dexter--he's so unusual. And Disney's Maleficent. She's so beautifully evil!

6. Which fictional character would you hang out with?

Wow! Hm. Friends have a dozen I'd love to meet, so I'll just use one of mine. Jackson Crow. I grew up thinking that I was either half Native American or half African American because my mom's family whispered about Vickie and I being "mixed blood." Turned out it was because my Dublin-born mom married a Stirling-born Scot. I still love the different cultures, and our Native Americans fascinate me a great deal. Jackson is a true "mixed blood" character, as are a few of mine, and, of course, I live in Miami and everything here is mixed--as it is in NOLA.

7. What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

I can't tell you a favorite--I can tell you the most fun. Dennis and I modeled for Zebra reprints of two books-Ondine, and Blue Heaven, Black Knight. What a good time. The photographer and the artist got into a long discussion and forgot they'd left us in a very awkward pose. We didn't know what to do!

8. What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

I have a band called the Slushpile. We're available on Itunes. Heather Graham and the Slushpile, Dead Men Tell No Tales (my favorite is Walking in New Orleans,) and an album that goes with an illustrated Christmas book, There Be Dragons. The album is called There Be Christmas Dragons, and my favorites are my son's Ching-Ching-A-Ling and my daughter's Santa Get Your Big Red Butt Out of My Chimney. Both are amazingly talented singers!

9. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

I think it's been fixed. According to Google, I was once married to a man named Pete. Oh, and I lived on a yacht! I guess that's what comes from the loving the water and being a diver. But Pete? Not even sure I know one well!

10. If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

I like my time; I would only go back if I had dinner plans, say, with Abe Lincoln and Robert E. Lee at my table. I thought they were both such strange, different, and amazingly honorable men.
I'm not sure I'm ready for the future! I want to see it as it unfolds!

11. Heather, please tell us about your latest release by MIRA, “PHANTOM EVIL”.

Adam Harrison made his first appearance years ago in a book titled HAUNTED. He was a man who had lost his son, who had special cognitive powers. Adam, not possessing the same powers, found people who did--and sent them around to hep others when bad thins happened with a paranormal twist. In Phantom Evil, he's finally been officially asked to put together a team for the government. Jackson Crow heads the team, and they're an assortment of people with different talents from different walks of life. Criminal Minds meets Ghost Busters, in a way!

12. Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

I find voice the most important; it's not so much what happens to a character in our world--we've seen just about everything. It's how we feel about a character or characters.

13. Heather, please tell us desperate readers where we can find you out in cyber world.

I'm all over the cyber world. eheathergraham.com, theoriginalheathergraham.com, writersforneworleans.com, facebook and twitter. I have two facebook pages--I am honestly on the the page that has my husband's name as well (Heather Graham Pozzessere) and the other just has information for those who don't want to see pictures of my kids or my latest excursions!

14. What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?

Phantom Evil leads off the Evil group--Heart of Evil will follow in July, Sacred Evil in August, and The Evil Inside in September. And then, a Christmas book, An Angel for Christmas, and the third installment of an historical vampire series, Bride of the Night.

Heather, thank you for spending time with Over the Edge readers and myself it’s been a blast getting to know more about you and your books. :)

Thank you so much for asking me!

I always wanted to create worlds that readers could get lost in, just as I always got lost in my favorites. Growing up I read, read, and read and grew up to write, write, write.

I'm fortunate enough to say that my books have made the New York Times and USA Today, and several of my novels have a few awards thrown in for good measure. Those are things are nice, but my favorite of all is to hear from my readers about what my books mean to them. No lists or number of awards can mean more to me than that.

Saddle up! It is time to save a horse and ride a cowboy. New York Times bestselling author, Cheyenne McCray's latest installment CLAY: Armed in Dangerous will be released on April 16, 2011 by St. Martin's Griffin in her erotic and dynamic Armed and Dangerous series.

I’ve never been to Wyoming but New York Times bestselling author, Cheyenne McCray has a unique way of placing reader in the heart of her books. Sassy Rancher Rylie Thorn is fuming confronting the newly elected Sheriff Clay Wayland about her new trucks being stolen from her ranch, The Thorn Ranch. It seems that there is an epidemic and most of the ranches in Cochise County have been hit by these despicable cowards. Hot and bothered by the situation and the hot looking cowboy sheriff watching the little wildcat demand action.

Sheriff Clay Wayland isn’t surprised to see the little blond hair spitfire in his office. He is surprised to hear her ranch has been hit by unlawful reprobates. Newly appointed to Cochise County Sheriff’s position Clay is trying to fix the internal chaos that his predecessor left behind in his way. Now he has poachers stealing work trucks from ranches in his county. Out to catch them he enlists the help of his two deputies and uncovers some disturbing news. Wayland realizes that this news could very well influence and halt his budding relationship with commitment phoebe, Rylie. Wayland will do anything to uncover the ring of degenerates raiding his ranches. He will convince Rylie that people don’t always but he sure has his work cut out for him.

Clay: Armed & Dangerous was my very first ride into the fascinating world of these adoringly deliciously cowboys I have heard so much about. Saddle up it’s time to ride one of the hottest and lushes cowboy I have ever read. Clay Wayland will have you sighing and wanting your very own cowboy. The scene below best describes Wayland. After having some wild erotic sex and having dinner Clay is showing Rylie around his newly built house and end up in his den. Rylie is strolling around finger gliding over his possessions. The following scene gives you a perfect picture of how dishy Clay is.

“Rylie picked up a wood carved wooden caricature with a drooping mustaches and ten gallon looked like a hole had been shot through the top of the crown. ‘This is great. Who’s the artist?’

‘I am.’ Clay smiled when her gaze cut to his, her eyes wide. ‘Wood carving is a hobby of mine. I have a little workshop in the back of my house.’

Wrinkling her nose, she placed the cowboy back on the shelf. ‘That’s disgusting.’

He raised a brow. ‘You don’t like it?’

“Love it.” Rylie poked his chest with one finger. ‘What’s disgusting is that you’re not only fantastic in bed, know how to cook, have a great taste in decorating, and are well read, but you’re artistic, too.’

His mouth curved into a grin. ‘Don’t forget kind to animals and small children.’”

I adored this scene because you really get a sense of what kind of man Clay Wayland is. He might be as big and broad as Jose Canseco but he has that warm down home good ole’ country boy feel as country singer-songwriter John Rich; even has the same dishy mustache to boot. I would say that Clay was my favorite character from the start. And no it is not obvious that Clay would be my favorite just because his name is on the book. It’s because Clay is perfect in being skillfully fleshed out that you forget that he isn’t a walking-talking –living –breathing alpha cowboy. Now that left me pondering could there actually be a Clay doppelganger walking around hoping for me to bump into him.

Clay: Armed and Dangerous has a cast of interesting characters but I found myself drawn to Deputy Hazard Quinn. He was to good looking for his own good. He reminded me of Lyle Lovett (it wasn’t because Lyle is drop-dead gorgeous) and how Lyle’s hair is always perfectly in place; not a hair out of place. He played a pivotal part in the story but he was a character that made me laugh.

I adore Levi Thorn. He is the kind of overprotective brother that every girl would love to have. Levi is stunning not just in looks but in his strong personality that leaps of the page every time he appears. Levi will wrap you around his little finger because of his sweet and loving nature. Even though he is ornery because of the thefts and trying to figure out how to keep Thorn Ranch afloat he still comes across and endearing and only wanting the best for his little sister, Rylie.

It took me a bit to figure out what the bigger theme of Clay: Armed and Dangerous was. I came to realize that Ms. McCray was creating a unique way of telling us that even when life knocks you down you need to pick yourself up, wipe of the dust and get back on the horse. Giving up isn’t an option and I believed Ms. McCray made sure it came through in her writing about Clay and Rylie. A smaller them was acceptance of things you cannot change. Rylie and Levi had a sucky childhood and Rylie was letting it influence her in her personal and professional life. Rylie in the end came to the understanding that not everyone is going to leave her. But for me I believe that by the end of the story Rylie finally figured out that her dysfunctional family wasn’t her fault. There wasn’t anything she could say or do.

Clay: Armed and Dangerous is a wonderfully created erotic and sexy read that left me feeling a bit warm and fuzzy for these two lovely protagonist.

Paranormal Romance
Author
Caris Roane

What is the best part of being a writer? What is the worst?

The best part about being a writer is engaging the creative process. Nothing makes me happier than bringing an entire world into being, characters that have never existed before, places, powers. And with Burning Skies, the second book in my Guardians of Ascension series, I created an entirely new preternatural experience called the darkening, in which my heroine has the ability to ‘split herself’ then travel through nether-space to specific end points. Very fantasy, very paranormal and soooo much fun!

The worst part about being a writer, for me, is knowing that I won’t be able to write all of the thousands of story ideas that seem to rattle around in my head constantly. I have so many books I want to write…but in the end, when the years are measured, there can’t possibly be enough time, even if I lived to be a hundred and ten!

2. Why do you write?

Beyond the creative quotient, I write because I love story. I love getting lost in the writing of a story. There’s a kind of magic that happens when I sit down to compose a scene. When I’m tapping on all those keys, aspects of character or setting or theme or plot emerge that surprise me. That element of being surprised is addictive and that’s why I write, to experience those moments of magic when, despite what I’ve planned, something new and intriguing emerges as if from thin air.

3. Name one eye-opening thing you learned from your book research.

Since my warriors use swords to battle the infamous death vampires, I had to learn the parts of the sword in order to describe these weapons in the course of the story. What I found fascinating is that the grip--that part of the sword held in the hand--can be made of wire, bone, horn, leather, wood, or ivory.

4. Do you have a favorite motto?

Yes, when I’m writing it’s: Make Some Magic.

5. Do you have a favorite fictional hero? Favorite fictional heroine?

My current favorite fictional hero is Laurell K. Hamilton’s, Jean-Claude. I’ve been studying her Anita Blake series for the last six months trying to figure out how she made me fall for him.

As for fictional heroines, I know it’s probably cliché, but I’m a real fan of Elizabeth Bennet, from Pride and Prejudice.

6. Which fictional character would you hang out with?

I’d love to hang out with Lizzy, of course. Have long talks, laugh, drink tea, find out what challenges she faced with Darcy after she married him.

What is one of your favorite book covers, your own or someone else’s?

Wowsers! I have to say that Daniella Fiorella at St. Martin’s has done the most amazing job with the covers for my Guardians of Ascension series. I can brag about them because the creative effort totally belonged to her. I thought the cover for Ascension was absolutely stunning. It has a shimmer to it that I’ve never seen before. Awesome. Then, I was sent the cover for Burning Skies, the second book in the series, and I started jumping around. It’s so alive. When you see it on the bookshelves, you’ll understand!

8. What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

I think readers would be surprised to learn that I think about them when I write. I’ve blogged about this on my website, but I think about my readers all the time and when I’m stuck on plot, for instance, I’ll ask myself the question, “What would the readers like to see happen right here.” It’s amazing to me how frequently the answer comes. Maybe someone out there is downloading straight to my brain!

9. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever learned by Googling your name?

As odd as this may sound, I rarely Google my name. I blog on my website and Facebook and I’m writing all the time. But Googling, I think, is for the readers.

10. If you could go backward or forward in time which would you chose? Why?

I would go forward in time. For instance, I would love to see how the entire world looks in five hundred years. I can’t even begin to imagine…

11. Caris, please tell us about your debut release by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 2011 release, “ASCENSION”.

Ascension chronicles the romance of Alison Wells and Warrior Kerrick, as she begins her rite of ascension to Second Earth, which is the world of the vampire. Her rite involves numerous attacks by the enemy, since the level of her preternatural power is so high that she threatens the world domination plans of the opposition. Kerrick, as a Guardian of Ascension, has been assigned to protect her. As her journey leads from one near-disaster to the next, sparks fly and love unfolds. At the same time, the sub-plot follows Marcus and Havily, another destined pair. We watch them fall to the lure of the breh-hedden--you know…vampire mate-bonding--but at the same time Havily despises Marcus because he abandoned Second Earth two hundred years ago. Book #2, Burning Skies, picks right up where their relationship leaves off. This is one thing I absolutely love about writing this series, that I get to explore two sets of relationships at once, starting one as I’m finishing the prior romance. Totally a blast, and hopefully it leaves the readers hungering for the next installment.

12. Which do you find is most important to you as a writer, voice or story? Why?

For me, ‘story’ is everything, partly because ‘voice’ is nebulous and just has to emerge on its own. But ‘story’ is the bones of a good plot, that which I feel passionate about, that which must be told, that which fires me up every morning before I go to my computer, that which I want the reader to experience. Let me also explain it this way, I believe that every story holds within it some metaphor of life that hopefully helps each of us to cope with our troubles just a little bit better. If we see a heroine succeeding in life, then maybe we can learn from her lessons and do better ourselves. In that respect, story can have great power.

13. Caris, for us desperate readers please tell us where we can find you out in cyber world.=)

I blog on my website, www.carisroane.com, and I love, love, LOVE, to hear from my readers. I read the comments over and over and sometimes what is said in these comments shapes the next book!

14. I know this is a difficult question with there being so many amazing authors out there to choose from but who are some of the GOT-TO-HAVE authors in your TBR pile?

Well, you’re right, there are a ton of amazing writers out there. I can tell you some that have shaped my paranormal writing and inspired me to develop my own vampire warrior world: Gena Showalter, Lara Adrian, Kresley Cole, JR Ward, Patricia Briggs, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Laurell K. Hamilton.

15. What’s next in the works for you? When can readers expect to see it out on shelves in their local bookstores?

I just finished a novella set in my world of ascension called, Brink of Eternity, which will be available within the next few months through the website, Heroes and Heartbreakers. This story follows the steamy romance of a Militia Warrior, Gideon, and a mortal on the brink of her ascension to Second Earth. I had sooo much fun writing it!

Also, in May, the second full-blown novel, Burning Skies, hits the marketplace. Then in September, the third novel of the series, Wings of Fire, will be released.

Caris thanks so much for spending time with my readers and me. It has been a blast getting to know more about you and your work. All the best in your endeavors.:)

~AUTHOR'S NOTES~

I began this book several years before I became published. I originally was going to write a werewolf book because I wanted to do something really different and I absolutely love wolves. I had done so much research on them and coincidentally on vampires also. I ended up taking the lore and myths of the vampire and weaving them into a book that answered my question, 'Where did the first vampire come from?'

There are so many tales of vampires in almost every country down through the ages. That is when I stumbled on to the answer -- the Carpathian people. The discovery of this dying race of people, struggling desperately to preserve their place in the world afforded me many intriguing adventures on their behalf. This was a very exciting and fascinating book to write. I loved all the characters and wanted to know more about them. I spent so much time with Mikhail and Raven, Gregori and Jacques that I felt very sad when I finished the book. Fortunately, my mind was already alive with more Carpathian lore.

~REVIEW~

Here is the book that started it all!! DARK PRINCE by # 1 New York Times Bestselling author, Christine Feehan has been re-issued in a 484 pages Authors Cut Special Edition hardcover on March 8, 2011 by William Marrow that includes the authors original 100 cut pages. Dark Prince was originally published in 1999 by Dorchester Publishing and was an instant hit winning accolades and awards from all around the literary community. Dark Prince was an original from the start and introduced readers to a powerful and ancient race called the Carpathians.

Dark Prince takes place in the Carpathian Mountains in Central and Eastern Europe. Mikhail Dubrinsky, Prince of the Carpathians has worked diligently for centuries to discover why so many of their children die in the first years. However, his efforts have come to no avail. It is at this time, when he is on the brink of despair and self-destruction that he meets a beautiful human psychic.

Raven Whitney has always been an outsider due to her psychic abilities. Having just finished a case using her abilities to track down a serial killer Raven has come to the quiet picturesque Carpathian Mountains to heal her mind and spirit. Until she hears the deep despair and reaches out to touch his mind help this poor tortured soul.

Grief has overwhelmed this might prince, consumed him. He could no longer bear being alone, but what else could he do. Raging at the world like a wounded animal Mikhail wonders why he can now feel pain or even grief when for centuries his life has been dark, barren and lonely. Mikhail is shocked when a female voice brushes his mind and feels her word against his mind as a gentle caress.

“The trouble is not really in being alone, it’s in being lonely. One can be lonely in the midst of a crowd, don’t you think?”

Preach it sister!! That scene really talks to the heart of the story and sets off the prose so beautifully. Here they are Raven and Mikhail; one is the leader and the law of his people but he seems so desolate because Carpathian children are dying, Carpathians are being hunted and the vampires are coming after them. How can a supernatural alpha male not feel desolate and alone? Flip the page to Raven who has been shunned not only by stranger but her own family thought she was a freak because of her strong psychic ability. I appreciate the fact Ms. Feehan shows readers that two completely opposites attract: a domineering overprotective alpha Carpathian prince and a dainty compassionate pixie like psychic can come together and teach the other how to relate and love.

It is very difficult to pick one character that is a stand-out or a favorite in the DARK PRINCE. All the characters are skillfully crafted and fleshed-out that you feel as if you could sit down at Barnes and Noble and have a slice of chocolate chip cheesecake and a cup of coffee with. But if I was tortured and having my nails pulled from my fingers I would choose Raven Whitney. Raven pops off the page with her compassion soaking through to let readers know she might be tiny in stature but she is solid and strong as a rock. Watch out Mikhail Gibraltar is standing right smack in front of you. Raven Whitney happens to be one of my all-time heroines. She reminds of feisty fairy but with raven locks. She is such an extraordinarily giving character that even though she is pint size in stature she jumps of the page like a Goliath. From the moment Raven speaks to Mikhail you are captured by her unique voice. She comes across very soothing and strong at the same time. She is a perfect match for the arrogant Dark Prince.

Dark Prince: Author’s Special Edition has all of the characters we have come to love in this world wide paranormal phenomenon known as the Carpathians. I have a difficult time picking out a favorite character when Ms. Feehan has delighted and delivered such a plethora of magnetic and magical characters. She isn’t called the mistress of the written word for nothing. Dark Prince is a strong skillfully crafted work mixed in with erotic sensual sex scenes mixed in with high octane thrills. The Carpathians might have exploded on the scene twelve years ago but they are still going strong and crossing my fingers and toes that they never stop.

I have to tell you without a doubt, hands down and you don’t have to twist my arm that out of the entire DARK series, Dark Prince is my favorite. I 100% adore, worship and am obsessed with any and all things having to do with those dishy, dying to be loved and tormented souls Carpathians just get inside my blood and stirs a connection. Not a psychic one but one none the less.

I need to break it down the Carpathians verses Vampire for the readers whom have yet to read one of Ms. Feehan's "DARK” series book.. Carpathian are not vampires in fact Ms. Feehan describes them as being a species made of earth, wind, fire and waters; and that they feed and drink blood for survival. They are as genuine and more human like than all of us. A vampire on the other hand is a lost Carpathian who turned to his wicked side and feeds and kills for their own pleasure…always feeling nothing. Vampires are the true incarnate of evil. Whereas Carpathians are more loving, dedicated and true to the natural nature. Do not get me wrong Carpathian’s have it in them to turn. They are always on the cusp of fighting their darker urges. This is why finding their true life mate is so important. Only when they find their other half can they truly be whole.

I believe the thread that runs though out DARK PRINCE is that family comes first. It doesn’t matter if it is traditional (and who has one of them these days) or non-traditional. Family is family and you love them and protect them at any cost. A greater theme that jumps out at readers is acceptance. Raven had to deal with turn Carpathian but still trying to hold onto her human side. She had to accept that even though she was no longer human she still could be compassionate, loving and understanding giving hope to her new family…Carpathians. Mikhail had to come to terms with the fact he couldn’t dominate Raven. For an alpha male this was beyond difficult since all he wanted to do was protect her at every moment. Mikhail had to learn to trust Raven that she knew what was best for herself.. He also had to accept that she wasn’t like the Carpathian women whom never argued or questioned his orders. Mikhail learned and loves that his life mate is independent and fights back never letting him for a minute get away with anything. They are a perfect match.

Even though the story takes place in a fictional paranormal realm I believe that Ms. Feehan objective was to have readers feel that if Carpathians and humans can unite and have acceptance in their fictional world what are we waiting for.
